Feel Good Award

Post by Bobby Lee »

I was Image delighted Image to receive an award certificate in the mail today. I had never heard of this society or its awards, but I am honestly humbled (or perhaps humiliated) to have been singled out like this. The certificate reads:
quote:

The Short-Notice Availability
Pedalist Society
In recognition for achievements, through creation of the Steel Guitar Forum, in relieving the neuroses and ennui of chronically under-employed pedalists,
Bobby Lee Quasar
is hereby honored, revered, and awarded ascent to the sublime position of

Best Steel Player Available on Short Notice
with all the rights, benefits and emoluments to which he may, or may not, legally be entitled.

The award is signed by one "Herb Steiner", who I must assume is some sort of bigwig in The Short Notice Availability Pedalist Society. Thanks Herb, and thanks to all of you who voted for me. Like I tell the bandleaders, "When the guy with the diamond horseshoe ring turns you down, give me a call. I'm available." Image

I love it when someone calls you for a gig which you can't do for some reason. You suggest 3 or 4 other people, and the reply is, 'No I tried him' 'no he cant do it either' 'he's got a gig'etc.....at which point you realise where YOU are on the guys call-up list ...THE BOTTOM! Im sure Im the only guy on the forum that this has ever happened to Image
So this award must be for always being at the top of the list!

Been there, Matt!
I remember a conversation with a horn player - he'd been offered a gig in Newcastle-upon-Tyne way up in the North of England but was unable to do it. In a spirit of helpfulness, he gave the 'contracter' the name of a friend of his, a musician who was of good repute and known for the TV work he did..... The agent, clearly lost in thought and not really thinking of what he was saying, said, "Oh no! I couldn't ask a GOOD player to go all the way up there....."

A bit 'off thread', this - congratulations, b0b!

Every now and then I play with a band called The Poison Okies. I swear I've never had more than 48 hours notice for one of their gigs, and often they've called me on the day of the gig!

They don't have a regular steel player, and I don't think they use anyone else. They just aren't together enough to plan ahead. I think they just decide at the last minute to add to me to the gig if I'm available.

And I'm always available! Image Now I have an award to prove it.
