Christine Bougie / GCGACE / Matt Andersen

Post by Allan Revich »

Last night I had the pleasure of seeing Canadian blues and roots musician Matt Andersen. Matt is a powerful singer and great guitar player whose shows are mix of covers and original material. His most recent touring band includes a really good lap steel player, Christine Bougie.

I had a chance to chat briefly with her after the show. Christine plays a vintage Gibson Skylark in C6 tuning, but she’s using her own modified version of the tuning, GCGACE. The tuning works well for her because it offers more bottom for solos and power chords for accompaniment. Matt gives his musicians at least a few bars of solo opportunity on every song, and occasional long solo breaks during his sets. Christine more than holds her own!

She was also featured in episode 6 of “Steel” in Fretboard Journal, discussed here viewtopic.php?t=398682
Current Tunings:
GBDGBD (open G)
GBDEGBD (G6)
